TEAM
OSVALDO AMADO
Administrator and Chief Winemaker
Osvaldo Amado is a renowned figure in oenology and winemaking, both in Portugal and internationally. With a nearly 40-year career spanning wine production across all Portuguese wine regions—except for the Algarve and the islands—and in countries such as South Africa, Brazil, Spain, and Italy, he is considered a true artist in the wine industry.
This status is confirmed by more than 3,750 medals and countless professional accolades, both national and international, including a “Top Winemaker” award, a “Lifetime Achievement Award,” three “Winemaker of the Year” titles, and a “Merit Winemaker Award.” Additionally, seven wines he crafted in the Dão region achieved the prestigious “Noble” classification—the highest distinction in that region.
Osvaldo also serves as a judge at national and international wine events and competitions, as well as a speaker at wine congresses, lectures, and exhibitions worldwide.
Initially dreaming of becoming a pilot, his passion for the land and vines began at the Dão Wine Station and Caves Messias, which marked the start of his career. Over nearly 40 harvests and more than 650 million bottles produced under his name, Osvaldo’s expertise has been refined, earning recognition in the world’s most prestigious wine publications, where his wines consistently appear in the Top 100 lists.
He believes great wine starts with great grapes, emphasizing close oversight of viticulture through daily vineyard visits. While he acknowledges the importance of technology, Osvaldo is deeply passionate about traditional, artisanal winemaking methods, favoring natural chemical processes in wine production.
His wines are known for their strong personality and complexity, with a subtle elegance. Above all, they are natural wines with an undeniable level of excellence that makes them truly rare.
With his heart in Bairrada and a preference for the Arinto (white) and Baga (red) grape varieties, Osvaldo still has some surprises in store for the future. Now at his own winery, Casa dos Amados, the multi-award-winning winemaker continues to turn every harvest into a celebration and every wine into a memorable experience.
